COVend Workshop - From COVID-19 to ARDS: Adapting Our Clinical Trial to Real-World Conditions

The Horizon Europe-funded COVend project invites you to a one-hour online workshop exploring how a pandemic-driven clinical trial has evolved to address Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) using a mechanism-based approach.

Date: 12 June 2025
Time: 12:00–13:00 CET
Format: Online | Free Registration

As the IXION 2.0 clinical trial transitioned from a COVID-19 focus to a broader ARDS treatment strategy, COVend experts will discuss the scientific rationale behind this shift, as well as the clinical and operational challenges encountered along the way. The session will reflect on the lessons learned and their relevance for the future of critical care research.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Petra Wuelfroth (F4 Pharma)

  • Prof. Günther Eißner (University College Dublin, Systems Biology Ireland)

  • Dr. med. Michael Nordine (Goethe University Frankfurt)

Key Topics:

  • COVend’s transition from a COVID-19 trial to a mechanism-based approach for ARDS

  • Scientific rationale for mechanism-based strategies in infectious disease research

  • The relationship between clinical practice and biomedical research

  • Coordination and implementation challenges in clinical trial settings

The session will conclude with a moderated panel discussion and Q&A, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.

Register now to attend and contribute to a forward-looking discussion on adaptive clinical trials and pandemic preparedness.
