UCD team presenting COVend research results at the European Congress of Immunology 2024

In September 2024, our partners, Zhiran Wang and Günther Eissner from University College Dublin‘s Systems Biology Ireland, participated in the 7th European Congress of Immunology in Dublin. This event, hosted by the Irish Society for Immunology and the European Federation of Immunological Societies, provided an excellent opportunity to explore the latest developments in innate and adaptive immunity, immune-related diseases, and interventions.

One of the highlights of the conference was Zhiran‘s presentation of her poster onThe Protective Effects of the Fibrin-derived Peptide FX06 on Human Pulmonary Endothelial Cells Against COVID19Triggered Cytokines.” This poster delved into the research conducted by the UCD team within the COVend project, which focused on the influence of COVID19-triggered cytokines on pulmonary endothelial cells, particularly in terms of apoptosis/necrosis, immunological activation, and transendothelial permeability. The team utilized both wet and dry lab approaches to unravel the mechanisms behind how FX06 protects human pulmonary endothelial cells from these cytokines. They are currently working on a highimpact extended manuscript to be submitted soon.

For more information on their research results, visit our “Media Corner” webpage for a closer look at the poster. We are proud of our UCD team for their valuable contributions to the COVend project and their ongoing efforts in researching the effects of FX06!
